Who are the “Hundred and Forty and Four Thousand” in the book of Revelation?

Simple Truth

In the book of Revelation, it talks about a hundred and forty and four thousand of the tribes of the children of Israel. There were twelve tribes in the children of Israel and from each of these twelve tribes there were twelve thousand that received the seal of God upon their foreheads. People throughout time have wondered who these hundred and forty and four thousand are. It makes it completely clear in the book of Revelation that they come from the children of Israel because it lists the specific names of the tribes that each twelve thousand come from as it says, “Of the tribe of Judah were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Reuben were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Gad were sealed twelve thousand.” And so on…

So one big problem that people run into is: How do you find twelve thousand from each tribe these days? because you hear that a lot of Jewish people have intermarried and so it’s hard to get a pure blooded Jew and a lot of Jewish people don’t even know which tribe they 144000originally come from and so it doesn’t appear to make sense but what does appear to make more sense is that these Jewish people from these different tribes were sealed (specially commissioned to receive salvation and preach the gospel via an angel) when Christianity first started off, back then there were pure blooded Jewish people who knew exactly what tribe they were from. Christianity as we all know started off with Jesus and His twelve disciples and they were all Jewish, St Paul was also Jewish and he played a major part in starting off Christianity but it appears from the book of Revelation that there were also sealed these hundred and forty and four thousand and of course as we just read they were all Jewish so the picture you get is that Christianity was destined to sweep around the whole world and was going to go into every nation and so God commissioned an hundred and forty and four thousand Jewish Christians to start this all off. We read that it says,

“…These are they which follow the Lamb withersoever he goeth. These were redeemed (received salvation) from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb. And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God.” (Revelation 14:4,5)

So clearly it says they were the firstfruits, the firstfruits would have to be the early believers in Jesus and not the latter ones (the last fruits) and clearly they followed Jesus wherever He went and Jesus wanted the gospel to be preached in all the world. In these preacher’s mouths were found no guile so they preached one hundred percent pure gospel truth, they preached the unadulterated Word of God, they had the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth and they were willing to die for it and back then people were clearly dying for the truth so it makes sense that these hundred and forty and four thousand were the ones who started Christianity off and we also read that John saw in his vision,

“And I looked, and lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred and forty and four thousand, having his Father’s name written in their foreheads.” (Revelation 14:1)

14-4The mount Sion they are talking about here is not to be seen as literal mount Sion on earth but instead is to be seen as symbolising spiritual mount Sion, or in other words the Kingdom of God as being a kind of a mountain and Jesus of course is up there on the top of that mountain as being the leader of the children of God. Jesus of course started Christianity off and here are these one hundred and forty and four thousand with Him up there on the top of the mountain in a kind of a victory celebration, they themselves had no doubt come out of great tribulation when they started the gospel off and since the early days of Christianity many saints have gone through what you might call great tribulation. So since Christianity first began, tribulation has always been the order of the day for Christians because Jesus said to His early disciples, “In the world ye shall have tribulation.” (John 16:33)  So these one hundred and forty and four thousand helped start off Christianity and here they are having a kind of a victory celebration with Jesus Himself on the top of spiritual Mount Sion (Revelation 14:1) and with all of the other saints who we read as being “…the voice of harpers harping with their harps:” that also came out of their different tribulations and no-doubt great tribulations (Rev. 15:2,3) and along with those that came out of “The Great Tribulation” of the last days and so we read that one of the elders (up in heaven) talked to St John in his vision and said back in Revelation 7:13,

“…What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they?”

This elder (departed saint – Rev. 5:9,10) was talking about,

“…a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;” (Revelation 7:9).

And so John says to the elder,

“…Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, these are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night…” (Revelation 7:14).

So what a picture you get here, the gospel is started off as coming out of these early Jewish believers and you have this one hundred and forty and four thousand that go into all the world to start Christianity off and what a tremendous job they did, it surely must have been so hard for them and they no-doubt went through great tribulation themselves in starting off Christianity along with all the other saints that came out of all the non-Jewish nations and so here they all are in Revelation chapter 7 and 15:2,3 meeting up at the very end of days in a great celebration victory on spiritual Mount Sion up in heaven. So what these guys started was clearly going to snowball right through to the very end and there were to always be saints that came out of great tribulation and one day they will all gather together in heaven when all the rewards are handed out and people will get to see the ones who started it all off, they themselves being a kind of last fruits of the firstfruits and all of these fruits will be coming out of ALL nations that are upon the earth. Yes, it started off in Israel with the Jewish believers but now we have all of these different believers from “…all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues…” all standing before the throne of God in a victory celebration.144000

Another interesting point here to note is that the angel that was showing John around these revelations that he was getting was actually a departed saint because he on one occasion said to John, “I am thy fellow servant and of thy brethren the prophets”so clearly, these departed saints that are in heaven still work with the saints that are on earth and so what these one hundred and forty and four thousand had started back then in the earlier days of Christianity, they were going to see through right to the very end. We choose to believe that these original saints and others like them are still working with the children of God that are on earth to this very day, they are going to work with the true children of God to the very end, that means right through the Great Tribulation, they will be there right with us, working together with us and who better to work with us other than other people, other saints including these one hundred and forty and four thousand that started the ball rolling back then, all working together as one in the Kingdom of God to this very day!

And so we also read that John,

“…saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the winds should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree.” (Revelation 7:1).5233392007121122237

We take this to mean that the four winds symbolise the troubles that were and are going to come to this earth and this all started off two thousand years ago when John was given the book of Revelation and Jesus opened the seals and of course these would also snowball right to the very end and so the hundred and forty and four thousand were sealed, or in other words, they received salvation and were commissioned to start off Christianity and so they did and so they still do to this day from the spiritual dimension, they don’t just sit around strumming harps up there, they are still busy working for the Kingdom of God. The Kingdom of God stems from earth to heaven in a kind of a Mount Sion picture, Mount Sion being the true children of God, the true Kingdom of God being the true Christians of God whether they be from the Jewish nation or from any other nation, they are all as one in the Kingdom of God, they are all as one in the mountain of God, in the Mount Sion of God, and one day we will all meet up in heaven when all of our trials and tribulations and troubles are over and we will all celebrate together, we will ALL shout the victory together and we will ALL sing the victory together both with Jesus and all the saints of ALL ages, all those that came out of great tribulation and have washed their robes in the blood of the Lamb – what a great day that will be, what a wonderful victory we will all have and God Bless these guys (and girls) of the hundred and forty and four thousand that started this whole thing off and are going to see it through right to the very end and bless all those others that uphold this view as well as what you might call the old time preacher who put this view out there so credit where due, Thank You Jesus!
