The problem with wisdom from above is that there is no problem with the wisdom that is from above, the real problem comes purely from us because we too often have an unyielded tongue because “…the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.” What is also interesting is that “…every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: But the tongue can no man tame, it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.” (James 3:7,8)
So everyone has heard of all of these different creatures that mankind has been able to tame and one that comes to mind is typically the horse because at first a horse can be pretty wild and so you see these cowboys in these films and they have to break the horse in, so what they are doing is breaking the horse’s wild spirit and then they can start training him and the same is true of all of these other creatures that mankind has been able to tame, they first have to break their wild spirits and so we see whales that have been tamed, bears that have been tamed, snakes, eagles, dolphins, you name it! And it all appears to start with first breaking the creatures spirit so to speak and this is the problem that God has with mankind because a lot of us tend to be untamed and too wild and even too self-willed and too high-spirited etc. and so God has to in effect slow us down because a lot of our troubles come from going with our natural inclinations – and our natural inclination is usually to not go with the wisdom that ascended from above but instead to go with the earthly and the sensual and even the devilish – especially these days!
So we really really do have to slow ourselves down and keep our carnal and earthly lusts under control and somewhat tamed and of course if we try to do this with the arm of the flesh and our own wills then we will still find ourselves doomed to defeat and failure and so the Only One that can really tame us is God Himself by His Spirit! And so when we find ourselves broken down by it all and beaten up by the day ‘n’ age and even all dressed up with no place to go etc. then at last we start looking up because “The wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.” (James 3:17)
“The wisdom that is from above is first pure” is interesting here because we are talking about a pure source and the pure Spirit of God and so we pick up on an anointing that comes from God and as they used to say in the old days “Go with the flow!” – but this flow is coming from the pure source. And then as the verse says, you get this peaceable feeling that comes over you that kind of calms your waters and in that sense, slows down your spirit and at this point you find yourself becoming more gentle because you are yielding to the gentle dove-like Spirit of God and so things become easy to be intreated. Intreated here means that you are now working things out in a calmer and friendlier manner because you are now operating through the Spirit of God and not through your own earthly sensual devilish lusts or your high-powered spirit etc.
So things are starting to come together and everything is starting to fall in place and you can see much more clearly now because the storm of your own raging lusts has passed and so you find yourself full of mercy and good fruits and assuming you are going with the fruits of pure honesty, you will find yourself without partiality and no bias and you are now able to see everyone’s point of view clearly and it feels more like all the cogs are now coming together and aligning and falling in place with each other and so now you are starting to move into the right direction, but there is one thing more that you’ll need to do without and that is again as the verse says, be without hypocrisy.
So now you really are a true peacemaker, you are at last going with God’s Spirit and not your own, you have become one of the true peacemakers of God and you have the fruits of true righteousness which can only come from above and from the pure wisdom that comes from above. “And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.” (James 3:18)
