As we move further into the day and age that Jesus foretold of two thousand years ago then we find that it is exactly as He said in that there is great distress amongst nations with perplexity, the seas and the waves roaring and even men’s hearts failing them for fear and for looking on those things which are coming to pass. The seas and the waves roaring in this prophesy is talking about the great unrest that there is amongst the peoples of different nations and so we frequently turn on our news and see these commotions and riots and protests etc. on the news.
Jesus said that we will frequently hear of wars and rumours of wars and that we would see commotions or we would hear of commotions and then He tells us, “…be not terrified.” (Luke 21:9) This is of course interesting that He should use the word terrified because a lot of these commotions that we see on our news are a result of what are so-called terrorist attacks and whichever way we view a terrorist attack and however it’s played out before our eyes, we’d have to all surely agree that such events are kind of staged with the desired effect of instilling terror into our hearts. So whether these events are real or unreal, staged or un-staged, they still have the desired effect of bringing about commotions and instilling terror into our hearts and so Jesus said, “be not terrified.”
And so in such a world as this it is so easy for us all to find ourselves feeling downhearted and discouraged and even to be filled with doubt. We find ourselves fearing over the future, we find ourselves fearing for our loved ones and our children, we also find ourselves perplexed with the feeling that there is just no way out of all of this and so we become downhearted and disillusioned with life and we even find ourselves disillusioned with each other as we look around us and we see the love of many waxing cold and so just what do we hold onto at times like this? We find that we need great wisdom and even great words that can truly lift up our hearts and lift up our spirits and lift up and even straighten out our troubled minds and give us the great strength that we need to rise above these rising tides and this ever growing feeling that there is just no way out.
The feeling that there is just no way out is a dangerous feeling because that would mean that you have thrown in your towel and you’ve given up and then also you really will get downhearted and feel great distress and you will even lose hope and worse, you would have given in to temptation. It’s best to hold on to the view that there is always a way out, there is always a way forward, and there is always a way through. Words that would help us all are the words that St Paul wrote that say,
“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” (1 Corinthians 10:13)
So from these words we can see that there is always a way out, there is always a way through and a way of escape, that God is faithful who will not suffer us to be tempted above that we are able, that no matter how great the temptation we will be able to decipher through what is good and what is evil because the temptation it says will be common to man. So we will all understand or we will be given the understanding and wisdom from God Himself as is to what is the good and right thing to do as opposed as to what is the wrong and evil thing to do and so if we choose the right and the good thing to do then we will be choosing Jesus, we will be choosing God and we will secure God’s blessing, we will secure God’s help and even “…hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.” (Isaiah 20:21)
So no matter how deep and how dark and how dense the woods that you sometimes might find yourself lost in, there is always a way through and a way out of those woods until one day we will finally leave this world and go to be with Jesus and then we really will be out of all of our troubles here and then we really will be lifted up into the clouds when we see Jesus coming in the clouds of heaven with great glory and a great future for us all. Even so come quickly Lord Jesus!
