One of the biggest questions on a lot of people’s minds is just what is the spiritual realm? Or what is all this stuff that people go on about when they talk about the spirits, spirituality, and all that sort of thing? People also wonder whether you are talking about a mere substance or non substance or some realm or some place, all of this sort of thing is wrapped up in people’s minds when they question just what is spirit or what is meant by spirituality? There are of course all kinds of ways that you can look at this and there are many explanations all over the Internet and in various religious text books etc. but there is one sure way of looking at this and that is to go to the origin of the whole thing or perhaps better said, as a mere human, to do your best to explain this and make it as clear as possible. Funny enough, the first thing that comes to mind is Ezekiel Chapter 28. Ezekiel 28 is one of those chapters that gives you some sort of description of the negative side of spirituality in that it is talking about Lucifer but it also indirectly gives you some sort of a clue as to how things must have been once before our own universe began or was ever created.
When we think of everything, we as mere humans have a tendency just to think of our own world, planets, stars, and galaxies out there etc. all of this as far as the imagination can go, but before all of this was ever created all we kind of know is that there was God, whether people choose to believe this or not, and the picture we get here in Ezekiel 28 is what was called the anointed cherub that covereth, so looking at this symbolically, what you might picture is God who is the true Light and you need to picture God as being a Person and a Personality and not a mere force and at the same time, He is pure Spirit – God is a Spirit! – and again – God as being the Light! In Ezekiel 28:14 you are given a picture of what is called the anointed cherub that covereth; if you look at this symbolically as God being the light and the cherub that covereth as being a kind of an intricate chandelier, then what you picture is the light being central and that light shining through the intricate chandelier and this giving a wonderful effect to the whole room (universe) and the whole place becomes lit up with a glorious light effect that comes through that chandelier. People might look at this beautiful effect and forget that the light is central to the whole thing so hopefully here we have a picture of, looking at it symbolically, how things were in what you might call the whole universe, God being the central light and the cherub that covereth, or in other words the chandelier that covereth, radiating some form of influence over the whole of God’s creation. Here in Ezekiel chapter 28 verse 13 it also describes what this covering cherub looked like and it gives a list of precious stones; it says:
13a.“…every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold:”
So when you picture the light shining through all of these precious stones then you can only imagine what kind of incredibly glorious light and colours must have come out of this whole effect, it must have looked absolutely incredible, looking at this symbolically of course! Well, as incredible as this must have looked, you read on from where we left off and you find that it says:
13b. “…the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in that day that thou wast created.”
So now you have a picture of not only an incredibly beautified chandelier but to add to this, this chandelier has music. When we read of “the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in that day that thou wast created” you get a picture of this cherub (Lucifer) as having musical instruments of sorts as being part of his make-up; somehow or other Lucifer has musical instruments as part of his being so looking at this symbolically, you now have a chandelier so to speak that also radiates music as well as colourful light but you have to remember what we just read, that it was God who created this chandelier in all of it’s glory and that it was God that created the musical instruments as being part of it. It goes on in the next verse to say:
14. “Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so.”
So clearly, it was God who created Lucifer and as we just read, it was God who anointed Lucifer; anointed here means that Lucifer once operated under God’s anointing or in other words, under God’s Spirit! The spiritual power and strength and wisdom that Lucifer once operated under came from God and if we read on in verse 15, we read that it says:
15. “Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.”
The iniquity that was found in Lucifer was pride, or in other words, self-worship; he in effect looked at himself and saw how incredibly glorious he was and thought of how incredibly glorious he must appear to all of the other angels which God had created and what a wonderful glorious effect he was having upon all (him being like a lamp shade in this effect) and so what does he do? He rejects “…the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.” (John 1:9) and it is also the same light that lighteth every true angel of God as it was also the true Light that lighted Lucifer, or in other words,
it was the anointing that he operated under. So now you get a picture of this incredibly glorious chandelier moving away from the true Light. You could picture him if you like as being like some kind of chandelier that is moving out and across the universe so to speak, like some kind of UFO if you like, though obviously that is not quite the point, the point being more that he no longer operates as from the centre of the universe, that centre of the universe being the true Light, God Himself, but now he has become like some other sphere of influence in that he is using his beauty and even the incredible wisdom that God created him to have but is now operating in darkness rather than the Light. If we look at Ezekiel 28 verse 12 we read:
12. “…Thus saith the Lord God; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty.”
This means that it is both God and Jesus speaking here. When we read “Lord” in the Old Testament, we must always picture it talking about Jesus; Jesus has always been in existence! As it says in John 1:1-3 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2. The same was in the beginning with God. 3. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.” So “Thus saith the Lord God” here means that Jesus is talking of this anointed cherub and is in effect saying that he was created perfect in beauty and perfect in wisdom so the picture you get here is that Lucifer was next down from God, kind of second in command but under both God and Jesus Who are One. So Lucifer was quite a creation in his origins and was the very sum of wisdom and beauty, a kind of the fairest of them all creature, but second down from God and Jesus and of course: what does Lucifer do? He kind of looked in the mirror at himself and in this same sense says, “mirror mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?” And once you start getting thoughts like that, then there is nothing uglier than pride itself! And so he fell from grace, he fell away from Jesus, he fell away from God, he rejected the anointing and the Spirit which came from God and started to operate under his own anointing and spirit and tried to convince all of the other angels that he was the true Light which lighteth every other creature; he moves further and further away from the Light and though he remains glorious, that glory has turned into darkness and so what we have now, all being said, is two forms of light in this whole universe of things, one is the true Light which is Jesus and the other is a false light which is Lucifer who is now commonly called the Devil and Satan due to his rebellion against God.
People who would and do turn to Jesus will find the true Light which lighteth every man which cometh into the world and people who would and do turn to the Devil (the fallen cherub) would and do find the false light that wants to light every man that cometh into the world. So again, going back to the very origins of everything spiritual, then we go back to what you call an anointing; people either operate under one anointing or the other, though they might not always realise this. It is God who is a Spirit and everyone who worships Him must worship Him in Spirit and in truth. The Devil is also a spirit, although he’s in no way God! He likes to think that he is the Anointed One – the “Truly Anointed One” has always been and always will be Jesus – Jesus is the Christ! – and Christ means “Anointed One.” The Devil likes to think that he is the Christ and that he is the anointed one; there is no other form of spirituality in this whole universe or even out of this universe. Every person or creature (angel) will find themselves operating under either one of these two spirits, your anointing and spirituality is either coming from God or it will be coming from the Devil, this being so whether you realise it or not.
There are a lot of people who have acknowledged that Jesus is the truly Anointed One and is therefore the Christ, the Messiah, the Saviour, and have become anointed of God, though of course they are not the Anointed One, and the same thing would happen to the Devil’s crowd; people who wittingly choose the Devil will be acknowledging him to be the anointed one and even the Christ and Saviour whilst the rest of mankind will find themselves somewhat unwittingly falling prey to the Devil’s anointing; they might feel that a lot of things are coming from themselves and their own flesh but more than often they are unwittingly serving the Devil. The same can also be true of God’s children, they might find themselves unwittingly drawn to Jesus, they might feel that something is missing in their lives, they might be surprised to find that this “something” is not something at all but all along it has been “Someone.” They might be aware of an empty void in their heart that can never be filled with earthly things or even earthly people; for these people, Jesus will be the answer that they have been looking for, through receiving Jesus into their hearts they will receive the very Spirit of God into their hearts and they will find themselves at one with God and with Jesus and in this same sense they will receive of His Spirit and His anointing from then onwards!
