When Jesus said:
“And as it was in the days of Noe (Noah), so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from Heaven, and destroyed them all. Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed” ( Luke 17:26-30).
The main thrust of the message that Jesus is telling us here is that on the earth in the days of Noah, everything was continuing as it had for hundreds of years and it will be just the same these days. For hundreds of years now there has always been much activity and talk in the world, particularly along the lines of economics etc in that the main issues of life are usually to do with buying, selling, planting, building, and eating and drinking etc and also of course, in the midst of this economic continuity, people get married and are given in marriage. So what Jesus was saying was that seeing as all of these things have been going on for hundreds of years, people would naturally assume that they would continue to go on like this for the next hundred or more years in spite of the fact that God was telling them to the contrary, but there is of course another message here which is also important and that is that this somewhat economic continuity in the days of Noah had a false sense of continuity in that Noah as a witness against the nations of those days was building an ark on dry land. The news of this in those days would have travelled far and wide as it was God who told Noah to build the ark and the ark stood as a witness against the generations of Noah’s day, this telling them that they had a false sense of security and the flood was soon approaching.
Another important factor in the story of Noah was that people had become violent and the imaginations of the thoughts of their hearts were only evil continually and it appears also that there was another corrupting influence on the earth in those days in that the sons of God (fallen angels) had somehow or other entered into our earthly dimension and were marrying the daughters of men. Noah was born into a generation that had become diabolically evil and the picture you get is that there were also other diabolical influences going on that were definitely not of this world but had somehow or other found their way into this world by design in “That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took wives of all which they chose” (Genesis 6:2). There is nothing in the story of Noah telling us of any good that came out of the days of Noah, on the contrary, it tells us that Noah was the only one that found grace in the eyes of the Lord. The Lord here is Jesus and grace in short, means mercy. So in other words, Noah had thrown himself completely over to the mercy of Jesus whereas back then a whole world had rejected the mercies of God and were choosing evil continually and you can only imagine that the fruits, or in other words, the children of the sons of God were also a corrupting influence. So what have we got? A whole world that has become diabolically corrupt in that the imaginations of the thoughts of his heart are only evil continually and he thinks that economically, all things will continue as they were against the backdrop of himself doing evil.
A lot of people these days have homed in to the corrupting influence of the sons of God and their offspring (commonly called Nephillim), in so doing they have somewhat changed the message that Jesus was telling us. The main message that Jesus was telling us was that people who had become evil in the days of Noah were thinking that they could continue being evil and that all things would continue as they were and nothing bad would happen to them and if we look back at the story of Noah then we see that something bad did happen to them in that a whole world was destroyed by a flood, this happening because a whole world had become diabolically corrupt. This happening also as, just like today in our generation, we are told that there are corrupting influences behind all flesh in that “We wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” It appears that during the days of Noah that these influences that are behind mankind had somehow or other managed to live amongst them. We are told that the children of these sons of God (Nephillim) were the great men of the earth in those days and were also men of renown. We have to remember when we read this that although they were the great men of the earth and were men of renown, or in other words, were famous, they were still evil. They were evil great men and evil famous men and it has to be said they were half human and half angel. None of us know how these things can be, all we do know is that it says so in Genesis chapter 6. It clearly says “That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose…the sons of God came in (had sex) unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them…” Notice here that it says they came in unto them, this putting particular emphasis on the unusual fact that these fallen angels were indeed having sex with fair maidens (women). We hear nothing in the days of Noah telling us that any good came out of that day and age, other than the fact that Noah was the only one who found grace in the eyes of the Lord. The whole world had become corrupt and had to be destroyed by a flood.
These days we have equally corrupt influences that are influencing mankind. The main facts are that clearly there are corrupting influencing that are coming from the spiritual dimension (fallen angels) and they are interfering with our physical dimension. We now have a whole world that is now being corrupted and it could be said that the whole of creation groaneth, waiting to be delivered. We have a whole world where both man and beast, birds and fish, and insects, and even nature itself are all being corrupted by mankind and are all being corrupted due to evil influences that are coming from the spiritual dimension. Does mankind really believe that he can continue for the next hundred years in his present corrupt state and that everything will turn out fine as it always has? Does he really believe he can ignore all of God’s warnings via his saints and his prophets and via what the world itself is telling us? Then you would have to say that only a fool has said in his heart there is no God. Jesus was telling us that all things will NOT continue as they were, that one day out of the blue, Jesus will return to this world and the world will come to understand that the great day of His wrath has come. We have a long long-suffering God who puts up with one hell of a lot from mankind but one day God’s long long-suffering to usward will snap and mankind will find himself engulfed by the flood of God’s judgements and wrath! So we all have a choice, we can either go with Noah and throw ourselves at the feet of mercy (Jesus), or we can throw ourselves at the feet of the world which will eventually suffer the floods of God’s judgements and wrath!
