The Self-Righteous Wrath of The Whore

In the book of Revelation St John is given a vision of a “…great whore that sitteth upon many waters (peoples of the world): With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.” (Revelation 17:1,2). This whore who John saw in a vision has a name written upon her forehead that tells us that she is called MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. So the big question is: how do we get a clearer picture of just what or who this is talking about? Just how do we picture what all of this means? Just who or what is this great whore of Babylon? If we are asking the question: WHAT is this whore of Babylon? then a simple answer to this is that she is to be pictured as every idol in the whole wide world. A list of these idols is given by John in Revelation 18:12,13. So in simple terms, she in her physical form is the world-wide-city-system of commercialism of buying and selling (idols) and dealings INTERCOURSES. Basically, everyone in the world including the kings of the earth (leaders, Presidents, Prime Ministers, bankers, secret societies etc), are fornicating, or in other words, in bed with the whore, or in other words are in bed with their idols (materialism).

One of her characteristics is brought out in Revelation 18:13 where it talks of all nations that have drunk of the wine of the WRATH of her fornication. The key word in this verse being “wrath.” Clearly the Whore of Babylon has a serious problem with wrath so she is to be pictured as a wrathful whore. Wrath in the Collins dictionary means: 1. Angry, violent, or stern indignation. 2. Divine vengeance or retribution. 3. A fit of anger or an act resulting from anger. So clearly, the Whore of Babylon is a violent, angry sort of person who is full of vengeance and revenge (teaching people a lesson), resulting in fits of anger and apparent divine retribution. So what the Whore of Babylon appears to do is to get all nations to drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication (Revelation 18:3); so she gets us MYSTERY-BABYLON-copy-1200x800all to go along with her wrath (gets us drunk). If she is angry with someone then we should be angry with someone, if she is full of violence then we should be full of violence, if she wants to teach someone a lesson then we should teach someone a lesson, if she is full of divine retribution and self-righteous pride and (religious) anger and vengeance then we should be full of divine retribution and self-righteous anger and vengeance so all being said, we are talking about war! All wars on this earth, St John says, are fought for the love of the whore – “And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth” (Revelation 18:24). The Whore of Babylon entices us into war and idolatry through her sorceries (the world-wide media/witchcraft) “…for by her sorceries are all nations deceived” (Revelation 18:23).

Another key feature of the Whore of Babylon’s make-up that St John brings out in his writings is that she has serious delusions of grandeur. In God’s eyes, she is clearly a whore but in her own eyes she glorifies herself and lives deliciously, she says in her heart “…I sit a queen and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow” (Revelation 18:7). So this appears to be where all of this self-righteous wrath and indignation is coming from. She has set herself up as a queen, she insists that she is no widow and shall see no sorrow. She reminds you of the queen of hearts in the story of Alice in Wonderland. In the story of Alice in Wonderland, anyone who threatened or questioned the queen’s authority, then it was “off with their heads!” So clearly, this Whore of Babylon is living in a dream world and is living in denial. She believes she is a queen who will never be brought down from that 77fedfd753855a0fa26ac9783253b3f3position and therefore shall see no sorrow. She also believes that she is no widow. This begs the question: If you are no widow, your majesty, then who is your king? The word widow means that you were once married and that you have lost your husband; your husband has died and therefore you are a widow. If would appear here in verse 18:7 that this would be queen was once married or perhaps she believes she is still married. The queen puts a particular emphasis on the apparent fact being that she is no widow and shall see no sorrow. There appears to be a MYSTERY here about the Whore of Babylon and that mystery being: why is she putting particular emphasis on the fact that she is no widow and shall see no sorrow? It reminds you of the saying that Shakespeare once wrote: “Me thinks that thou doth protest too much.” When someone protests too much then it usually means that they have something to hide and they are guilty of something. Quite possibly, the Whore of Babylon is running away from something she has done. Could it possibly be that the Whore of Babylon was once a queen who has killed her own husband THE KING and she is in denial of this fact? It is for this very reason that the Whore of Babylon is severely judged by God, the reason being “How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow. Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine: and she shall be utterly burned with fire for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her” (Revelation 18:7,8). So clearly the Whore of Babylon is severely punished because she saith in her heart “I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.” Furthermore, she is judged because of her wrath (wars).

When we are talking about the Whore of Babylon, we are talking in the spiritual sense. This is a spiritual picture that Jesus Himself gave, through his angel to St John. So when we are talking about a queen who insists she is no widow, we are talking in the spiritual sense of a queen who was once married to God and in this same sense was married to Jesus. Jesus Himself of course was crucified and as Pilot said, was the King of the Jews. Pilot asked the Pharisees, “shall I crucify your king?” The chief priests answered, “we have no king but Caesar” so clearly, they murdered their own king and through their WRATH they got the Romans to do their dirty work in crucifying and murdering their own king, this making them in the same sense, widows.

Isaiah 54:5 “For thy maker is thine husband: the LORD (Jesus) of hosts is his name: and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel: The God of the whole earth shall he be called.”

As an after note: Presently, the whole world is drinking from the cup of the Whore of Babylon’s wrath. The nations are being made drunk yet again and are being put onto a war footing by the Whore of Babylon’s wrath. The wisest thing to do here is to not drink from her cup and not to go along with her sorceries and her wrath.
